Swim Time Converter Tool

SWIM TIME CONVERTER
Meter pools are slightly longer than yard pools.  This little online tool helps you convert swimmers time from yards to meter and meters to yards.   Heat Sheets indicate if times are in meter or yards (ie 25 Yard Free vs 25 Meter Free)

Volunteer Descriptions

For suggestions about where to volunteer, see the “Not Sure Where to Volunteer?” after the job descriptions.

For additional questions regarding volunteer postions, please contact our volunteer coordinators Lisa Haydt (clhaydt@aol.com) or Carrie Graham (whimsyworld@hotmail.com)

CCSL Certified Officials: Training is required for those interested in becoming a Stroke & Turn Judge. The CCSL will determine the training schedule. Once the dates are determined, we will publish them on our website and contact those who expressed interest.

Stroke & Turn Judge: Swim officials assigned by and working for the referee to judge the swimming conformance with the rules for the event being swum. Non-conformance, frequently referred to as “DQ” or disqualification, is reported to the referee.

Non-Certified Positions: The following positions are open to all. Many positions, with the exception of meet director, scorer, starter, referee and stroke-and-turn judges can be learned “on-the-job” or with brief instruction.

Meet Director: Responsible for the set up, management and overall operation of home swim meets.

Announcer: The announcer announces the upcoming events.

Event Roundup Tent:  Supervises and coordinates swimmers before the ready bench.  Escort swimmers to the ready bench for all of their races at the appropriate times. This is a key position which keeps the meets running on time.  You will not be asked to go look for swimmers who do not show up for their event.

Ready Bench: Aligning swimmers for each event by heat and lane. For more information about ready bench, click here to see the Ready Bench Guide.

Lane Timers / Lane Recorder: (Three per lane). Uses a stopwatch to get accurate times for each swimmer. Reports to Head Timer. Additionally the timer who is designated as the Lane Recorder (one of the three timers) will, besides timing, record all times for each race onto the deck card and then give these cards to the runners.

Runner: Collect deck cards from recorders after each event and deposits them at the scoring table.

Scorer: Determines official time derived from three times recorded per lane/swimmer and then gives the deck card to the computer representative.

Head Timer: Supervises Lane Timers during meets, signals to Referee when Timers have cleared watches, maintains watches in proper working order, and helps schedule Timers for all meets.

Timers: Time the swimmers during events. Timers are divided into 2 shifts.

Set Up: Set up the pool partially Friday night and early Saturday morning, including: arranging lawn furniture, guard stand, backstroke flags, lane guides, setting out timers chairs, setting up the team and ready bench canopies, getting benches for ready bench etc...

Clean Up: In charge of putting everything away after the meet on Saturday and general clean up of grounds.

Heat Ribbons: Determines visual order of finish of swimmers for each race and awards the heat winner a heat winner ribbon.

Awards: Responsible for sorting and labeling awards for each event.

Computer Representative: Inputs all swim times for individuals and team for each event swum. Tracks qualifying times, pool records and best times.

Assistant Positions are responsible to fill-in for head position duties when the head person is absent, as well as assist with communication and other supportive duties as needed.

Positions include:Assistant to the Volunteer Coordinator, Assistant to the Head Age Group Parent, Assistant to the Head Timer, Assistant to Meet Director and Assistant to Ready Bench.

Each “Belterra” family may be asked to bring a food contribution to a home meet. Stay tuned to the website and your e-mail for more information.

Not Sure Where to Volunteer?

Have small children? We encourage parents with younger children to sign up for Set-Up or Clean-Up, Name Tags.  This allows the parent to be around for their children while volunteering for the swim team.

Enjoy being part of the action? Timer, Runner, Stroke/Turn Judge, Starter, “Flipper” and Age Group Parent are great volunteer positions for you.

More Extroverted? Consider positions Assistant to the Volunteer Coordinator, Assistant to the Head Age Group Parent, Assistant to the Head Timer,  Assistant to Meet Director and Assistant to Ready Bench.

Want to Be in the Shade and Still Watch Your Children Swim? Volunteer for Ready Bench,  Scorer, Computer, or Awards.

SPECIAL SWIM MEETS

Championship Meet (Champs):

Swimming Competition held at the end of the swim season in which individual swimmers from all CCSL swim teams compete for awards. Champs is held at the UT Swim Center. All swimmers are eligible to swim at The Championship meet as long as they have established a valid time in an event during the regular season. (i.e. a swimmer cannot decide to swim Butterfly at Champs if he/she has not established a time in that event prior to Champs.) Please check with the coach if you have questions whether your swimmer qualifies.
